Projects overview

Rijnenburg

Utrecht

The city of Utrecht would like to keep its higher income population connected to the city. To help achieve this aim, on the west side of Utrecht, an area of 1000 hectares has been set-aside in the Rijnenburg polder. The development will generate close to 7000 homes, together with an additional 100 hectares for geographically relevant or associated small businesses.

The design is based on a residential-work-recreational landscape that mirrors the natural atmosphere and countryside setting of the Green Heart. Flexibility is also of great importance: while much of the landscape is absorbed into the “Green-Blue Carrier" —and will remain untouched, the design allows for future development to take place in many different ways.
