Bosrijk Efteling
Kaatsheuvel

In a time of even more recreational alternatives, the Efteling needed a way of maintaining and possibly increasing the number of visitors. The plan was simple: create the possibility to extend what is usually a day trip into a weekend stay, complete with overnight accommodation. A masterplan was drawn up for the design and construction of recreational holiday cottages. These were located in the existing landscape of Brabant: pine forest, deciduous trees, gently undulating dunes, and meadows. Typical Efteling characteristics such as a meandering stream and a lake with the Sandman’s castle, a fairytale gatehouse, a small village, and a country mansion in the middle of a field. The cottages are all unique, not only in style but also in the way they relate to and take advantage of the Brabant landscape.
