Recreating the Erasmus Medical Center also brought a new square in the city. This square is both the public address, the place to take and bring your family member and an important outdoor space for relaxing and sitting in the sun. Since the entry of the Metro and the bus stops are next to the square there is a natural dominancy of pedestrians. To support this and to make sure the square is used as a place to stay we have introduced the concept of “shared space” by giving it an yellow-red-amber brick carpet with 8 big maples trees and sturdy green planters. On the most prominent place an old sculpture of Gust Romeijn gives it an attractive special feature.
